Getting ready for your new bundle of joy can be a bittersweet moment as it can sometimes be a little overwhelming, there’s lots of information to learn and if you've got 'baby brain' it's easy to become forgetful! We want to make these precious moments even more special, so we’ve put together a little checklist for new mums-to-be, from everything you need for feeding and changing, to sleeping and venturing outside.
Sleeping
Every baby will have a different sleeping pattern of their own. Some will sleep through the night (lucky you), whereas others sleep in short bursts. Most newborns are asleep more than they are awake and can range from eight hours up to 16 or 18 hours.
- Cot, crib or moses basket with fitted mattress & fitted sheets
- Sleepsuits
- Baby monitor
- Swaddle blankets
- Sleeping bag
- Room thermometer
Changing
When it comes to changing your baby, you want to make the experience as easy as possible and stress-free. Having a dedicated place in your home where you change your baby will make life a little easier, that way you can keep all your essentials close.
- Changing bag
- Changing mat
- Nappies & sacks
- Baby wipes/cotton wool
- Nappy rash/barrier cream
Bath time
Bath time can be a wonderful bonding experience for you and your baby. Babies don’t need bathing every day, but it can be a great way to help them relax and settle before bed.
- Baby towels
- Baby bath
- Cotton wool
- Nail scissors
- Baby brush or comb
- Bath thermometer
- Bath support
Playtime
Playtime is an excellent way to help your baby learn more about the world and explore, communicate and socialise as they grow older.
- Bouncy chair
- Teddy bear
- Blankie
- Playmat
- Cot mobile
Clothing
You’ll need enough clothes to make sure your baby is clean and warm, however, babies do tend to grow quickly, so it’s a good idea to plan a little further ahead and have a couple of bigger sizes available for when they grow out of their newborn clothing.
- Sleepsuits/baby grow
- Bodysuits
- cardigans
- Vest tops
- Hats
- Mittens
- Booties
- Socks
- Coat or all in one for winter
Feeding
Whether you’re breastfeeding or bottle feeding, your baby will need all the nutrients to help them grown, and there are a few things that will make feeding your baby easier, from soft baby bibs and muslins to sterilisers and bottles.
Outdoors
Finding the right pram and car seat should be something you research thoroughly, as it needs to suit your needs as well as your babies.
- Pram, pushchair or buggy that lies flat
- Pram parasol & rain cover
- Car seat
- Blanket
- Baby carrier or sling
- Changing bag
- Car sunshades
- Travel cot
