Tell us a little bit about your shop…
Beetham Nurseries is a family-owned, independent garden centre on the A6 in south Cumbria, just 4 miles from the M6 motorway. Established in 1984, we are proud to offer our customers something different and unique right across the site.
Visit our Outdoor Plant Area and Growing Nursery to see a huge range of plants, including rare and exotics in The Glasshouse within The Growing Nursery itself. Have a bite to eat in the Garden Cafe or a freshly made pizza in The Wood Fired Kitchen. Join us for breakfast, lunch, brunch, or even a freshly baked sweet treat. Our talented team of Chefs and Bakers create delicious meals and desserts every day.
Explore our Home and Lifestyle and Gift shops to find gifts and homeware from unique local, national and international brands, as well as our range of Houseplants, Glassware, Garden Furniture (in spring & summer), Children's Gifts and Toys and Pet accessories.
What do you love about being a shop owner?
We love having the opportunity to bring unique and interesting brands to our shoppers. As we are predominantly a garden centre, our customers come to us not only for plant inspiration but for advice, so we love speaking with our local community and helping them find what they are looking for. Due to COVID, we have also been a safe space throughout the pandemic for our customers to come and shop whilst feeling safe in doing so.
Have you ever had any famous faces pop in?
We are pleased to have welcomed many famous faces through our doors over the years; many soap actors, members of Take That, Victoria Wood, Adam Frost, Carol Klein and even a certain Samantha from Sex and the City!

Tell us a little bit about the place you are located…
Beetham is a beautiful, picturesque village on the border of Lancashire and Cumbria. On the south edge of the Lake District, it is a gateway to beautiful countryside and just a couple of miles from the seaside and the glorious views across Morecambe Bay. Closer to Beetham Nurseries, there are many family walks around us, perfect to do before or after enjoying a hot drink and freshly baked treat with us!
Your favourite time of year in the shop?
Definitely Spring; flowers are blooming outside and we change up the displays inside after our festive season; the shop is brimming full of spring and summer living products at the moment, as well as beautiful gifts and houseplants. It’s a lovely time of year to work here and visit.
Your favourite moment in the shop?
Our favourite moments in the shop are always when we have the chance to revamp or change a display. We love the opportunity to bring together beautiful gifts & homeware alongside the living houseplants; the combination always makes for an interesting and unique display.
What first attracted you to Sophie Allport products?
Sophie Allport is a well-known, quality brand that we felt our customers would love to see here at Beetham Nurseries (and we are pleased to say we weren't wrong!). Quality is a huge part of everything we do here, and so to know we are buying from a premium supplier is reassuring both to us as a team and our customers, too.
A bonus for us is knowing the brand is UK designed and throughout the year there is always something new, which our customers love to see.
What is your favourite Sophie Allport collection?
There are so many fantastic ranges to choose from! Our customers particularly love the Bees collection and the Home Grown collection; our personal favourite is the Whales collection!
