Fabric By The Metre FAQS
How to wash Sophie Allport fabrics
We recommend separating all washable fabrics into light or dark colours and washing them at 30 degrees Celsius (depending on the care instructions). Each fabric carries care instruction labels with universal symbols; please refer to these labels and always follow the care instructions provided. Natural fibres will shrink to some extent, but washing or drying fabrics at excessively high temperatures will cause more shrinkage than usual. For best results, use a non-biological detergent. When hand washing, avoid placing the detergent directly onto the laundry; instead, ensure that liquids are dispersed, and powders are completely dissolved before immersing the items to be washed.
Please note: When our fabrics are used to construct other products such as curtains or blinds, we recommend pre-washing the fabric before construction if you plan to launder the final product. If your final items require cleaning, such as curtains, we recommend dry cleaning to prevent any shrinkage.
How to dry Sophie Allport fabrics
Line drying is ideal for achieving that outdoor-fresh feel and minimizing creases, but using a tumble dryer at the correct setting also gives good results. When using a tumble dryer, avoid over-drying the laundry and promptly remove it to reduce creasing. After drying, smooth out and reshape everything, paying particular attention to borders and hems on towels and tablecloths, then fold carefully.
Can I iron Sophie Allport fabric?
Washing and drying fabrics correctly will help eliminate creasing and make ironing easier. Natural fibres crease more when new, but with time the fabric softens, and this will reduce. For best results, iron tablecloths whilst still slightly damp, using a steam iron. If fabrics have become bone-dry, we advise re-damping with a water spray before.
There is a discrepancy in the print alignment on my fabric by the metre, what do I do?
Please note that with our fabric by the metre, there may be up to a 2cm discrepancy in the print alignment, due to the printing process. This may cause issues if using our fabric to construct blinds. We would not class this as a fault, so please be aware of this before ordering as cut fabric is non-returnable.
