A leg stretch in the countryside Quality time can be hard to come by, and a long walk in the countryside is a great way to squeeze in some much needed alone time together. Pull-on your wellies and ramble through the great outdoors: whether you’re adventuring through fields, forests or coastlines, the fresh air and good views will do you good - especially if it gives you time to have a proper conversation without interruptions or distractions.
An indoor picnic When was the last time you and your other half enjoyed a picnic together? Well, February is hardly the time of year to lay a blanket on the grass, but it is the perfect time to surprise your partner with a picnic in the living room. Make it cosy with plenty of throws and cushions, and then create a mezze of delicious bits to nibble on: bread, meats and olives are a great place to start and seeing as you won’t be far from the kitchen, there’s no reason you couldn’t serve a few hot dishes too. Remember to chill a bottle of wine and set a playlist of your favourite songs to play in the background - this is one of our favourite romantic date ideas!
Home-cooked dinner for two If you’re a keen cook, why not rustle up a thoughtful meal to share together? It doesn’t have to be fancy or extravagant (though a good pudding is always worth going the extra mile for), as it’s often the very act of taking the time to plan, shop and prepare a meal that makes it special. So whether you’re making a three-course dinner to last long into the evening, or simply want to serve up their favourite meal, pop on your apron and surprise them with something delicious. And for bonus points? Dress your table with beautiful cutlery, exquisite glassware and perhaps a candle or two for a soft, flickering glow.
Nighttime winter BBQ Another of our favourite romantic date ideas? A winter barbeque! Sizzling meat, a warm chiminea and an evening beneath a starry sky is a great way to break up your routine and do something a little out of the ordinary. Make sure you have blankets, hats and scarves to keep your warm and consider recycling those Christmas lights so you have some twinkly mood lighting. And don’t forget to leave room for mugs of cocoa and toasted marshmallows…
Lace up your ice skates You needn’t be a pro on an ice rink to have a good time on Valentine’s Day. Simply lace up your ice skates and tiptoe onto the ice for a few hours of giggling and clinging onto one another. It’s the perfect excuse to hold one another tight, and even if you’re not much good at it, stepping outside your comfort zone and being a little playful will leave you grinning from ear to ear.
Recreate your first date One of our favourite romantic date ideas of all? Recreating your very first date. Perhaps you went for coffee, enjoyed a meal together or simply went for a drink in a pub, but whatever it was, take the time to recreate it as closely as possible. You’ll need to have a good memory to remember all the details that made it so special, but sitting in the same place, wearing the same (or similar) outfit and even listening to the music that was popular when you first met can be a great way to get the butterflies going.
What do you think of these romantic date ideas? Will you be giving any of them a go this year, or do already have something planned for Valentine’s Day?
