Sophie Allport launched a limited edition fine bone china mug for Classic FM, the UK’s most popular classical music station, in September 2017. The Classic FM 25th Anniversary Mug could be purchased from the Sophie Allport website while stocks were available - it sold out within six weeks. The mug retailed at £12.50 and raised over £5,000 for charity.
On 7th September 1992, Classic FM became Britain’s first national commercial radio station and now has a staggering 5.8 million listeners. Sophie’s design was inspired by the first piece of music ever played on the radio station; Handel’s Zadok the Priest.
Classic FM raising money for charity
A limited edition of 1,000 mugs were hand decorated and fired in Stoke on Trent in the UK and were available to buy on the Sophie Allport website. £5.42 from the sale of every mug went directly to the charity Global’s Make Some Noise. Classic FM is part of Global, one of the world’s leading media and entertainment groups. In 2014, the group united its radio brands and created Global’s Make Some Noise to raise money and awareness for small charities and projects that help disadvantaged youngsters across the UK, but which often struggle to be heard.
